Portugal BES Q1 profit falls 49 pct, beats fcast

 

May 2 (Reuters) - Portugal's No.2 listed bank Banco Espirito Santo (BES.LS) on Monday posted a 49 percent fall in first-quarter net profit after selling its syndicated loan portfolio at a discount to deleverage amid a sovereign debt crisis.

The bank said in a statement net profit fell to 60.9 million euros ($90.18 million), even as net interest income rose 7 percent from a year earlier to 271.3 million euros.

Analysts surveyed by Reuters had predicted, on average, a net profit of 48 million euros and net interest income of 270 million euros.

BES sold over 1.3 billion euros of syndicated project finance and corporate loans in the first quarter at a discount estimated at around 3-4 percent. BES said the gross cost of the deleveraging amounted to 41 million euros.

Portugal BES 2010 profit drops 2 pct

Jan 31 (Reuters) - Portugal's second-largest listed bank Banco Espirito Santo (BES.LS) on Monday posted a 2 percent drop in 2010 net profit, pressured by a weak domestic market during the sovereign debt crisis, but slightly exceeding market consensus.

The bank said in a statement net profit fell to 510.5 million euros ($695.3 million), while net interest income fell 3 percent from a year earlier to 1.164 billion euros.

Analysts surveyed by Reuters had predicted, on average, a net profit of 504 million euros and net interest income of 1.18 billion euros. (Reporting by Sergio Goncalves and Andrei Khalip)

 

Portugal BES 2009 profit jumps 30 pct, beats fcast

LISBON, Jan 27 (Reuters) - Portugal's second-largest listed bank, Banco Espirito Santo (BES.LS), posted on Wednesday a 30 percent rise in its 2009 net profit to beat market expectations, helped by strong trading gains, overseas earnings and a stake sale in Angola.

Net profit rose to 522.1 million euros ($734.1 million), the bank said in a statement. Net interest income rose 10.6 percent from a year earlier to 1.201 billion euros.

Analysts in a Reuters poll had predicted, on average, a net profit of 495 million euros and net interest income of 1.28 billion euros.
